Wellness as a Daily Devotion: Body, Mind, and Spirit in Harmony

By: Meg Yoho, MSN, RN, ASQ CSSBB

Wellness isn’t something on my to-do list—it’s woven into the fabric of who I am. It touches every part of my day and has become a guiding principle in how I live, work, and show up in the world. Of course, wellness looks different for everyone. There’s a quote that has stuck with me:

“What you practice daily is what you become permanently.”
– Grace Lee Boggs

I think about that often.

Growing up, I was the kid who played outside until the streetlights came on—wandering the woods, pretending I was on epic adventures, and soaking in the natural world without realizing how much it was shaping me. As I got older, I began to understand just how much serenity and mindfulness nature brings. So imagine my joy when I discovered shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing”—a Japanese practice that highlights the science-backed benefits of spending intentional time in nature. In some ways, I think I’ve always been on a wellness journey without knowing it.

I’ve come to truly appreciate how personal wellness is. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula. But there are foundational concepts that guide many of us: caring for the body, engaging the mind, and nurturing the spirit. When we make space for that kind of integration—physical, mental, and spiritual—we begin to build a version of wellness that’s meaningful and sustainable.

Working in healthcare has given me a front-row seat to just how powerful our daily habits and mindset can be. The science is clear: taking care of ourselves isn’t just an intermittent “nice to have” option — doing so can literally add years to our lives and make those years more joyful.

Personally, whether I’m cycling, hiking, gardening, or meditating — being intentional and well-rounded in my approach to wellness has brought so much balance, resilience, and energy into my life. And that’s something I naturally want to share with others. It’s always exciting to connect with like-minded friends and colleagues who are on similar paths.

That’s exactly what happened when Jen Prom joined Yellow Brick. We quickly discovered our shared passion for wellness and knew we wanted to build something bigger. Thus, YB Well was born—our Yellow Brick initiative dedicated to cultivating a community of wellness. Together, supported by our Yellow Brick family, we’ve created a space to explore, learn, and support one another—sharing practices, encouraging habits, and making wellness a regular part of life both at work and beyond.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. And it’s about showing up for ourselves—and each other—every day. I encourage each of us to dedicate time to prioritize self-care, build healthy routines, and enhance our overall well-being.
